PROJECT EXPERIENCE

West Rail Line CM/GC

Herzog was managing joint venture partner for this 12.1 mile light rail CM/GC. The project consisted of more than 115 retaining walls, 67 ballast walls and more than 10,000 lineal feet of noise walls, two light rail tunnels, one pedestrian tunnel, and 14 light rail or vehicular bridge structures. Through value engineering, we were able to achieve nearly $10 million in additional savings by converting cast-in-place retaining walls to MSE walls, using soil nail walls and other options. We developed an innovative approach to install a 286-foot tied-arch bridge over US Highway 6, a major six-lane roadway. The bridge was erected on the approach to the bridge site and rolled into place, limiting the full roadway closure of US Highway 6 to one weekend. This was the first time in the United States that a tied-arched bridge was “rolled-out” using this method. The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
