Overview
The VTA Berryessa Extension is the first phase of the Bay Area Rapid Transit Silicon Valley Expansion. This 10-mile LRT extension of the BART system begins south of the Warm Springs station in Fremont, proceeds through Milpitas and ends in the Berryessa area of north San Jose. As part of the design-build joint venture, Herzog is constructing 10 miles of double track third rail (five miles of which is located adjacent to UPRR track) and building two new stations with parking facilities. Work scope also involves the demolition of existing track, 3rd party relocates substantial structures and mass excavation at the Milpitas station site. New track (direct fixation and ballasted) will be installed along the corridor on multiple bridges and in tunnels.
