Overview

The 6.6-mile Exposition (EXPO) LRT Phase 2 line extends westward from Culver City Station and runs along the old Pacific Electric Exposition right-of-way to downtown Santa Monica. In a construction joint venture, Herzog performed trackwork under the prime design-build contractor for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA or Metro). Major features included seven stations, five major bridges, and retaining walls to support embankments that transition from an at-grade to an elevated alignment. The project included one mile of elevated transitway and a new bicycle path adjacent to the rail line. Daily ridership is expected to remain high with more than 64,000 boarding passengers projected by 2030, making it one of the nation’s highest used light rail systems.
