Each year, the Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association (MAPA) honors Missouri’s top asphalt paving projects and the companies that performed them. Projects compete in nine specialized categories, ranging from Airports to Full Depth Paving. According to MAPA, submissions are evaluated using the following criteria: “smoothness, longitudinal joints, segregation, degree of difficulty, innovative practices, uniqueness of the project, and overall quality.” Herzog Contracting Corp. earned the following three awards for 2018:

1st Place – Maintenance
Herzog Contracting Corp. / Vance Brothers
US 65 Carroll, Livingston, Grundy & Mercer Counties
• 84 miles of rumble strip and shoulder patching. Microsurface treatment applied on entire roadway

1st Place – Private and Commercial Paving
Herzog Contracting Corp. / E.L. Crawford Construction
Northwest Missouri State University Hughes Fieldhouse
• 4” SuperPave on indoor track, 4.5” SuperPave on exterior tennis courts and parking lot

2nd place – Minor Road Overlay

Route 275 Atchison County
• 15.5-mile HMA overlay of the existing mainline and a 2’ shoulder widening

“We are very pleased with the Quality Paving Awards Herzog received this year,” expressed Kyle Phillips, Vice President of Civil Construction at Herzog Contracting Corp. “MAPA’s recognition of these awarded simply underscores the focus we place on workmanship and quality here at Herzog. We are very proud of the employees that share our vision and make these successful projects happen every day.”

Since the time MAPA was founded in 1990, Herzog has supported the organization’s efforts to promote the use of asphalt construction and keep quality standards high for Missouri’s roadways and commercial areas.
