Herzog, in a joint-venture with Flatiron, has been selected by VIA Metropolitan Transit to construct the Advanced Rapid Transit North/South corridor project, known as the VIA Rapid Green Line, an 11.7-mile Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line through San Antonio, TX. Beginning near the San Antonio International Airport, the route will extend southward through downtown to Steves Avenue.
Designed to connect neighborhoods and major employment centers, the Green Line will offer a reliable, direct, and high-quality transit service. Key destination points along the route include the airport, North Star Mall, Park North Shopping Center, San Pedro Springs Park, San Antonio College, the VIA Metro Center, Baptist Medical Center, Downtown, Roosevelt Park, Missions National Historic Park, and many high-density commercial and residential areas.
Included in the scope are the construction of 26 bus stations, curb and gutter, and roadway paving. The stations will have fare collection, public announcement systems, next-bus messaging, security cameras, and lighting. Moreover, VIA Rapid will benefit from the implementation of nearly nine miles of transit lanes, including 4.7 miles of dedicated, center-running lanes and transit signal priority systems installed at traffic intersections to maximize service reliability and speed. The project also includes repaired and new sidewalks, along with significant improvements at several intersections.
The project will be delivered using Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) with preconstruction and construction phase services. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025 with the VIA Rapid Green Line operational by 2027.
