February Shoutouts

METROLINK – In late January, debris from the hillside slope along the Mariposa Trail Bridge in San Clemente fell onto the right-of-way. Two of the bridge spans for a pedestrian bridge running parallel with the slope had to be removed as the landslide was pushing it towards the track. Since then, Metrolink service has been suspended; however, BNSF freight trains and a few Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains have been running at reduced speed through the corridor.

Led by OCTA and Metrolink, the construction team continues around the clock to work on drainage, excavation, and supporting the installation of a catchment wall to stabilize the hillside. Full service will begin ahead of schedule on March 25. David Lucas, General Manager – Metrolink (TASI) expressed his gratitude, “Since day one, Herzog has supported all players and work activities, collaborating seamlessly with Metrolink to ensure track stability for evening trains and facilitate safe, efficient completion of all necessary tasks. A special thank you to Track Manager Kevin C. for serving as the direct point of contact through the entire project.”

TEXRAIL – Please join us in congratulating TEXRail for reaching its 5-year anniversary as of January 10. Since operations began in 2019, TEXRail has:

  • Operated 125,270 train trips
  • Carried 2,474,897 passengers
  • Traveled 35,409,126 passenger miles
  • With an overall end-to-end on-time percentage of 98.62%

CAPMETRO – Engineer Ashia L. and Conductor Racheal R. brought in the train for the official grand opening of McKalla Station on February 24, 2024. Situated next to Q2 Stadium, home of the Austin FC soccer team, CapMetro’s event provided free fare for all fans during the event. While CapMetro faced a big increase in ridership due to both the Austin FC (and SXSW events in early March), Herzog has been committed to Passion for Customer and provided safe rides for our passengers since day one!. Great job, CapMetro team!

KC STREETCAR O&M – Three cheers for the exceptional work by our HTSI operations & maintenance crew as 807, the newest vehicle in the KC Streetcar lineup, was delivered! All the way from Elmira, NY, this is the first of eight new streetcars to arrive by truck.  Once unloaded onto the tail track, 807 was pulled into the vehicle maintenance facility by another streetcar for thorough inspections. Our commitment to safety and excellence is paramount, and these additional checks ensure that the newest member of the fleet meets the highest standards. Bravo fellas!

HRSI BALLAST DIVISION – Shout out to our dedicated Easton Road shop crews for their hard work on the new build of ACT 7 for one of our Class 1 railroad customers. HRSI successfully executed a long term agreement on the new unit.
