Herzog Foundation Hosts Open House for Herzog Employees

The legacy of Stan Herzog’s career centers around making national transit ecosystems accessible and sustainable. Likewise, the legacy of Stan’s philanthropy will center around making the ecosystems of Christian education more accessible and sustainable for families across the nation.

Former Chairman & CEO of Herzog Stanley M. Herzog, or “Stan” as he liked to be known, not only led the company to become one of the largest private contractors in the country today, providing construction, operations, and maintenance services for railroads and transit clients, but he was also a generous man who donated millions of dollars to personal and political efforts during his lifetime. He was a Christian, philanthropist, father, and grandfather who believed in the power of education to positively impact society, and he dedicated much of his life and resources to these causes. Upon his passing in 2019, Stan left his wealth to the Stanley M. Herzog Foundation for Christian education.

The Herzog Foundation’s mission is to catalyze and accelerate the development of quality Christ-centered K-12 education, with the vision of seeing families and culture flourish through quality Christian education. Construction for the headquarters of the Herzog Foundation was completed in the spring of 2022, boasting a state-of-the-art, 18,000-square-foot facility in Smithville, MO, with ample office space, gathering rooms, and an A/V production studio. Earlier this year, the Herzog Foundation welcomed Herzog employees to tour the facility at an open house event, which was a great opportunity to learn more about the success of the Foundation’s programs to date.

At the event, Chairman of the Board Todd Graves noted that the campus currently includes lodging accommodations for trainers/presenters and that the Foundation has plans to build an Education Center on the property. The Foundation is grateful for the continued support of Herzog employees and is working hard to make Christian education more accessible and sustainable for families across the nation.

The Herzog Foundation administers several programs to help launch, promote, and strengthen Christian schools nationwide. These include:

  • The Lion – An online news publication providing perspectives and insights into a wide array of cultural topics along with real-time updates on what is happening within the world of Christian education. The Lion has reached more than 31+ million people to date and published 2,000+ articles.
  • SchoolBox – An online educational resource designed to aid new and emerging Christian schools, provides resources that will catalyze the creation of new schools and help parents and administrators navigate the start-up process
  • Conferences & Training – Opportunities to gather Christian education leaders and share best practices on topics like administration training, strategic planning, network building, marketing, and donor development. The Foundation has already held 20+ bootcamps, trained 600+ school leaders, and reached 275+ schools to date.
  • Awards – Annual recognition for individuals that embody excellence in Christian education
  • Grants – Financial incentives are awarded to Christian schools each year that are advancing Christian education in a particularly scalable, sustainable, or innovative way. More than $4 million in grants and 600+ scholarships have been awarded to date.
  • Making the Leap Podcast – Weekly podcast hosted by Christine and Chris Stigall. The Stigalls recently made the leap to Christian education with their daughter and in this podcast they speak with society experts, educators, legislators, psychologists, and other parents to uncover the hidden truths in education and lay the groundwork for change.
