Overview
Herzog constructed this 14-mile-long highway project as part of MoDOT’s pilot program for the use of infrared imaging for thermal segregation, during which any problems can be immediately detected and corrected before compaction occurs. As one of the main thoroughfares in Western Missouri, heavy vehicle volumes within the work zone required extensive nighttime operations and multiple recycled materials were used included asphalt pavement, asphalt shingles, and ground tire rubber. Because of Herzog’s diligence, the project earned quality incentives on both the pay factors for the Superpave mix and for pavement smoothness.
