Herzog Transit Services, Inc. – Assistant Vice President

With more than 30 years of experience in public transit, encompassing bus, light rail, and commuter rail, Ed Byers stands as a seasoned professional in the industry. Throughout his career, Ed has distinguished himself by successfully orchestrating new service launches and facilitating seamless contract operator transitions on both the public and private sides of the industry.


Ed’s expertise spans every facet of the transit domain, including contract operations, contract management, fiscal management and budgeting, grants administration, procurement, regulatory compliance, reporting, operational logistics, dispatching, equipment and facility maintenance, track maintenance, customer service, labor relations, strategic planning, scheduling, and project management.


His journey with Herzog began as the General Manager in Austin, Texas, overseeing Capital Metro’s Red Line rail service. In 2017, his experience led him to the role of managing the transition of dispatch, operations, equipment maintenance, and station maintenance contracts for Florida’s Tri-Rail commuter rail service to Herzog. In 2023, Ed was appointed as the Assistant Vice President for Herzog Transit Services, Inc. (HTSI). In this position, Ed provides invaluable leadership and guidance to HTSI and TransitAmerica Services, Inc. (TASI) teams nationwide. He plays a pivotal role in strategic planning for new service implementations and consistently delivers value-added assistance to our valued customers and partners.
