Herzog Contracting Corp. – Vice President of Track/Infrastructure Maintenance

With a strategic focus on railroading, Kevin Day provides executive leadership for Herzog’s maintenance-of-way (MOW) services, capital rehabilitation planning and associated track infrastructure maintenance. This includes providing oversight for MOW system safety programs, project financial estimates and guidance on operating policies, rules and regulations.


In addition to his MOW responsibilities, Kevin provides strategic input on Class 1 railroad research and development projects and works with our railroad clients to identify new opportunities for Herzog to provide a leading role within the industry. He also provides guidance on railroad track design and operations planning for construction projects.
Prior to joining Herzog in April 2022, Kevin spent over 19 years at Canadian National Railway. He served in a number of positions including Assistant Vice President, Engineering Track, Eastern Region, where he led CN’s field operations for all track maintenance and basic capital programs for the US and Eastern Canada territories; Senior Director, Reliability, where he led the Mechanical Engineering and Reliability teams in developing electronic maintenance programs and utilizing available technologies to improve the availability and reliability of CN’s locomotive and rail car fleets; and Senior Director, Field Technology and Data Analytics where he led a cross-functional operations team that evaluated and implemented new field technologies.


Kevin received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University, a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois as part of their Railway Engineering program and completed the MIT Executive Program – Leading Through Financial Excellence. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Mississippi and is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way (AREMA) Association.
