Lou Litten

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. – Vice President of Commuter Rail Operations

Lou Litten has spent 39 years in management positions including the last 29 years in commuter railroad operations and is currently serving as Vice President, as well as General Manager of transit operations and maintenance services for the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) Tri-Rail.

Lou’s railroad career began in 1995 with New Jersey Transit Rail Operations (NJTRO) where he worked in various positions during his tenure including Senior Trainmaster for New York Penn Station and Project Trainmaster in Meadowlands, NJ for the Meadowlands Maintenance Facility Expansion Project and the Morrisville Yard Project.

His tenure at Herzog began in 2005 when he was hired as Director of Rail Operations for Tri-Rail. While there, Lou was promoted to GM. As the company expanded, he also served as GM for the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. In 2011, Lou was named Vice President of Commuter Rail Operations for Herzog Transit Services, Inc. (HTSI). Since that time, he has provided industry leading expertise and executive leadership for HTSI’s GMs of 15 commuter railroads.

Lou is fluent in all facets of rail operations including compliance in safety, regulatory, operating rules, transportation, maintenance of equipment, maintenance of way, maintenance of systems, maintenance of facilities, dispatch, customer service, contract, finance, and labor relations. His prime focus is the delivery of operational excellence and elite service to our customers by building, promoting, and protecting our culture through his leadership presence. As a member of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Commuter Rail Committee, he has a complete understanding of industry standards and the operational challenges within our industry.
