The joint venture team has reached one of its final project milestones on the Division 16: Southwestern Yard project. In early November, four Metro LRVs were brought in to begin Local Field Acceptance Testing at the newly consolidated O&M facility and railyard. The Southwestern Yard is located next to the Los Angeles International Airport and will serve both the Crenshaw/LAX Line (under construction) and the Metro Green Line. The track configuration and site layout support safe and efficient LRV movements for switching between functional facilities, storage tracks, and mainline tracks. The main building will house staff for general administration, operations, maintenance, and transit security as well as accommodate four tracks for service and inspection, heavy repair, and blowdown. Adjacent facilities provide material storage, paint & body shop space, car wash, and a cleaning platform. The project is scheduled for completion in January 2019.
