Overview

This Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) operations and maintenance facility project consisted of a combined 146,000 sf of structures that serve the Crenshaw/LAX Line and the Metro Green Line. Located on 18 acres, this LEED Silver Certified rail yard consists of five buildings and facilities that accommodate LA Metro staff and LRV operations and maintenance. These structures include a general administration and employee welfare building, a control tower, a five-bay body shop with a blow-down and wheel truing pit, a carwash facility, a cleaning platform, material and equipment storage, and a paint/body shop,. The rail yard included 15,000 ft of ballasted track, 1,080 ft of embedded track, 1,267 ft of shop track, 537 ft of pedestal track, 6,000 concrete track ties, 10,864 cy of concrete, 200,000 yards of track subgrade, 35,000 tons of ballast, 1,500 ft of precast concrete panel grade crossings, 365 site light and OCS poles, over 6.5 miles of specialty cable installed, and 200 pieces of specialized industrial equipment. The yard stores up to 54 LRVs at one time.
