June Shoutouts

METROLINK – Congratulations are due to our track and structures team at Metrolink for working 2 years injury-free as of July 1, 2023. This team performs maintenance on over 500 miles of ROW throughout the Los Angeles area. They have faced many recent challenges including record flooding, landslide issues along the San Clemente right-of-way, and excessive heat conditions just to name a few. Below are photos of a hillside at MP 204.6 on the Orange County subdivision that we have continued to work with the agency and other players to allow freight trains through the affected area safely and while working collaboratively to get the track opened up for full Metrolink service. Keep up the good work, Metrolink team!

OKC STREETCAR –  The Oklahoma City Streetcar recently participated in a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) tabletop exercise which brought together 40+ local representatives from police, fire, medical first responders, and transit in a mock emergency guided by TSA. The collective group acknowledged strengths and exposed weaknesses, and overall will be more prepared for an emergency. At the end of the exercise, the TSA gave out two coins for exemplary response. One of the coins went to Herzog’s OKC Streetcar Operator Rodolfo Alvarez. Congratulations to Rodolfo and all the frontline teams that keep us safe! Your diligence and sacrifice are never lost on the rest of us that rely on it.

CALTRAIN – Our dedicated TransitAmerica Services, Inc. (TASI) crews were hard at work prepping Caltrain’s new electric multiple units (EMUs) for their inaugural electrification test. June 6 marked a significant milestone as TASI operated the first EMU unit along the Santa Fe drill track during testing in San Jose, CA. This step marks the beginning of scheduled, comprehensive tests by the EMU manufacturer to verify the proper functioning and energization of the overhead catenary system (OCS) line, ensuring that the EMUs receive ample power to operate smoothly.

Stay tuned for more updates as Caltrain progresses towards full electrification in 2024. Find out more about the inaugural electrification run here on Caltrain’s website.
