The KC Streetcar Authority orders two additional vehicles for the downtown line and aims to add new streetcar shelters due to increased demand.
Kansas City, MO – The KC Streetcar has enjoyed a steady increase in ridership over the past two years and finally surpassed five million passenger trips this October. With Herzog Transit Services, Inc. operating the line, the streetcar has achieved nearly 95% on-time performance (OTP) and reached “an employee safety record of 863 total days injury-free.” Detailed ridership statistics can be found on the KC Streetcar website. More improvements are planned along the line including additional canopy structures, two new vehicles, and various art installations to improve the passenger experience. Future streetcar extensions are being planned to support demand both north and south of the current route, connecting to areas of current development.
KC Streetcar Constructors (a joint venture partnership of Herzog Contracting Corp. and Stacy & Witbeck) completed the buildout of the line in December 2015. Learn more about the construction of the KC Streetcar here.
