Women in Construction Week is celebrated March 5-11, 2023. This year’s theme, ‘Many Paths, One Mission’, celebrates the different journeys women have taken toward the same goal: strengthening and amplifying the success of women in the construction industry. What does Women in Construction (WIC) Week mean to you?
Strap on your boots and get out to the field! I work in a position that doesn’t require me to be in the field but that’s where the action is and if I can learn the intricacies of how we report time, claim quantities and record equipment hours, it helps me in justifying the cost associated with it.
Share a moment where you felt inspired to be a woman of construction.
On a joint venture, when your joint venture partner thanks you for helping the job out. It takes teamwork and I enjoy learning everything I can about the work we do.
Why did you choose this career path?
I like to dig in and figure out how we can put the right cost information in the right people’s hands without a lot of extra work.
What is your favorite part of working in this industry?
No two jobs are the same. Different partners leading different jobs – I learn how they manage the job from a financial standpoint and I convert that to the Herzog way.
What advice would you have for other women entering the construction industry?
Find some great mentors who can educate you on everything from safety to project management to owner relationships. Take it all in and create a toolbox of resources!
Fun fact about me:
I have 4 kids that keep me busy as well. We enjoy playing/watching sports! I’m a competitive person and can still beat them in every athletic competition!
