Overview

This port expansion project provided a new 95-acre railroad switching and classification yard UP, BNSF, and Pacific Harbor Line (PHL) railroads. Project elements included removal of 6,000 ft of existing tracks, demolition of existing facilities and 28-acres of paved surface area, importation of 90,000 cy of fill material, 60,000 ft of wood tie ballasted track, 6,500 ft of concrete tie track, 1,500 ft of embedded track, 60 turnouts, relocation of active petroleum, fuel, and high-pressure gas pipelines, a new water distribution system, and installation of a photovoltaic solar panel system, 20,000 tons of asphalt, an 8,200 sf two-track locomotive maintenance and fueling facility, an 8,100 sf yard administrative building for PHL, and site-wide lighting and fencing.
