Overview
Herzog was awarded a five-year operations contract in 1996 for the Trinity Railway Express commuter rail service. The contract has been extended three times since then and scope of work has grown. The system originally ran between Dallas and South Irving but was later extended to Tarrant County and downtown Fort Worth. On the same shared corridor, Amtrak operates passenger service; and freight operators on the line include the Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Dallas, Garland and Northeastern, and Fort Worth and Western railroads.
Originally, Herzog’s scope of work included management, operations, and maintenance of equipment and facilities, including the yard and shop maintenance facility. Over time, these responsibilities have been expanded to include dispatching and maintenance-of-way, including track, structures, communications, and signals. The service now provides 68 trains per weekday and 42 Saturday trains, carrying 2.1 million passengers annually.
