Overview
This commuter rail project includes track infrastructure improvements as a part of the overall $1.2 billion Walk Bridge Replacement Program on the New Haven Line (NHL). The two projects within this CM/GC work package include the CP243 Interlocking Project and the Danbury Branch Dockyard Project. For the CP243 Interlocking Project, crews built and realigned 16,822 ft of ballasted track and installed six No. 20 tangential high-speed crossovers for a new four-track interlocking system. For the Danbury Branch Dockyard, crews constructed and realigned 6,491 ft of ballasted track for a new Metro-North railyard. Four existing railroad bridges allowing vehicular grade separation were also replaced with crews completing the bridge trackwork – three of the rail bridges support the NHL tracks. Work is being completed under live track conditions with over 80 daily trains on the alignment making it the busiest commuter rail line in the United States.
