Overview

This rail yard project included the reconfiguration of six yard tracks and yard infrastructure to improve locomotive and passenger car movements between the mainline and the equipment maintenance building within Amtrak’s King Street Coach Yard’s east yard. Major track work included constructing approximately 1,200 feet of ballasted track yard leads, track shifts, 2,370 feet of new storage track, and realignment of a grade crossing across Holgate Street. Approximately 1,100 tons of asphalt was laid to reestablish track crossings and bridge areas between pavement sections where yard tracks were demolished. A mechanical storage shed and security kiosk were relocated on-site. Work was completed in four phases to accommodate ongoing Amtrak and Sound Transit locomotive and train set rail yard operations and equipment maintenance services.
