This light rail project’s three-line sections, NW-2, NW-3, and NW-4, extended the DART Green Line system 13.5 miles to the northwest from Dallas Love Field Airport crossing through three cities and a historic downtown. Project elements included earthwork, 13.5 miles of double track comprised of 71,500 ft of direct fixation track and 74,500 ft of ballasted track, three elevated bridge structures totaling 8.7 miles of aerial track that crossed over 93 streets, eight passenger stations (five at-grade and three aerial), station parking lots, a shoofly track, 21 grade crossings, 11 traction power substation (TPSS) sites, overhead catenary system (OCS), systems signals and communication elements, mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls, utilities, a 1,800 ft open cut U-wall depressed guideway tunnel, and a pedestrian bridge over the six lane Belt Line Road. Sections of the new LRT guideway were built alongside active Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad (DGNO) and Union Pacific Railroad (UP) freight tracks.
