Overview

This project extends the San Diego Blue Line Light Rail trolley system 11 miles from the Old Town Transit Center to the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Campus. Work includes 119,408 ft of ballasted track and 42,000 ft of direct fixation trackwork, 3.3 miles of aerial viaduct, nine stations (three at-grade and six aerial), three Park-n-Rides, one parking garage, eight bridges, one tunnel, 500,000 sf of retaining walls, 530,000 cy of excavation, utilities, traction power substations (TPSS), overhead catenary system (OCS), signaling, railroad coordination and live track work, new dedicated bicycle trails, vehicular road and bridge improvements, testing, and startup. Three miles of the LOSSAN corridor was double tracked under live track conditions to increase commuter train frequency and speed as a part of the project’s Elvira to Morena Double Track and the San Diego River Bridge Double Track programs.
