Overview

This project was an 8.5-mile light rail system extension that runs between the E Line at the Expo/Crenshaw Station and the Metro C Line and serves the Crenshaw District, Inglewood, Westchester, and surrounding areas in Los Angeles. The LRT guideway is a mixture of at-grade, aerial, and below grade double track with 54,316 ft of at-grade ballasted track, 22,000 concrete ties, 35,000 tons of ballast, 36,876 ft of direct fixation track on six aerial structures and in three miles of tunnels, 26 pieces of special trackwork including crossovers, double crossovers, turnouts, an equilateral turnout, crossing diamonds, and a moveable point switch, a highly complex wye connection and tie in to the existing C Line at Imperial Highway near the Aviation/LAX Station, 17 at-grade road crossings, eight stations of which three were below grade, and three park and ride lots. Systems components included an overhead catenary system (OCS), traction power subsystem (TPSS), and an Automated Train Control (ATC) system.
