Overview

This light rail expansion project through Salt Lake City’s downtown central business and entertainment center provided LRT connectivity to the intermodal transit center servicing the local Utah Transit Authority (UTA) FrontRunner commuter rail system, Amtrak, and Greyhound and local buses. Project elements included a one-mile alignment of in-street running embedded and ballasted double track, three passenger stations, an overhead catenary system (OCS), traction power substations (TPSS), and train signaling combined with traffic signal controls. Roadway and intersection improvements included asphalt pavement, curbs, sidewalk, storm drain gutters and drainage, street lighting, and landscaping. Major utility work consisted of relocating a 30-in water main and upgrading a 48-in brick sewer built in 1895 using a cure-in-place pipe.
