Overview
This project included 30-miles of commuter rail expansion work through nine cities and adjacent to UP and BNSF freight railroad track. Work activities included the installation of 43 concrete tie turnouts/crossovers into active railroad tracks, 25,000 ft of ballasted track, one railroad bridge, one pedestrian bridge, retaining walls, 15,000 ft of 12-in underdrain, expansion of two existing passenger stations, and utility installation, protection, and relocation. Quiet Zone safety improvements were made to 50 at-grade railroad crossings, including new curb and gutter, enlarged median islands, safety railings and gates, sidewalks, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps. Enhancements were made to traffic and railroad signals, pavement markings, pedestrian warning systems, landscaping, fencing, and gates.
