Overview
This new start commuter rail project is a 26-mile double track system (52 track miles of ballasted track construction) with 10 stations extending between the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFWIA) and Shiloh Road in Plano and passes through three counties and seven cities: Grapevine, Coppell, Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson, and Plano. The new alignment interchanges with three existing DART light rail transit lines (the Red/Orange lines in Plano, the Green Line in Downtown Carrollton, and the Orange Line at DFWIA) and Trinity Metro’s TEXRail Commuter Rail Line at DFWIA. Additional project elements include clearing and grubbing, civil works, and system and signals, inclusive of positive train control (PTC). The Silver Line alignment is within an active railroad corridor with Class 1 and Short line railroads that include BNSF, Fort Worth and Western Railroad (FWWR), Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad (DGNO), and Kansas City Southern (KCS). The new alignment will cross over the BNSF Madill Subdivision. Sections of existing single freight track will be upgraded to meet passenger rail standards with the single-track right-of-way reconfigured to accommodate the new double-track system. Extensive live track coordination will be required to complete these various work scopes. Additional integration activities will be closely coordinated with Trinity Metro to allow full interoperability between the Silver Line and TEXRail commuter rail systems.
