Overview
This commuter rail extension project included 200,000 cy of earthwork, drainage structures, 17.2-miles of Class 4 second mainline track, 27 pieces of special trackwork, 162,979 tons of ballast, three railroad bridges and three box culverts, 24 grade crossings, six pedestrian crossings, four stations with park-n-ride lots and bus circulation, 455-ft of concrete deflection/crash walls at existing vehicular bridge piers, a 150-ft long sheet pile retaining wall, replacement of the existing wayside signal system, eight new control points and modifications to three existing control points, 91,639-ft of ductbank, fiber-optic infrastructure, utility relocations, roadway reconstruction, a Vehicle Storage and Light Maintenance Facility (VSLMF), and testing and commissioning. The project extended from the Sand Lake Road station in Orange County to the Poinciana station in Osceola County on the existing Central Florida Rail Corridor (CFRC) right-of-way where live track work was coordinated with CSX, CFRC, and Amtrak trains.
